overtakes, consumes me
No cancer, for now
Just bliss, that nasty kind
that kind you pay for, in a cheap hotel room
under the thick slow neon glare.
or the kind that smiles at you
in the cab of an old chevy as it sneaks its hand up your skirt.
It's an addiction
How can you say no.
In the daylight you say, oh I would never
It's dirty, it's wrong
but when the light is gone
it's right
you justify and oblige
No regrets
it's right now, it's right then

Scraping the bowl
Brown curls bounce as she pulls herself up
Scaling the cabinets as if they were mountains
Silver antique knobs serve as holds for her tiny bare feet
Her father is making biscuits nearby
White powder dusts the edge of his strong hands

When afflicted by the heart.
So much pain, waste, regret
Rushes in,

With secrets hidden in its wing-ed foam.
A phoenix with deadly news upon its breast
And yet when the showers pause
What prowess it shows,
As the heart and soul align in their set course
Then up from even the side of Hades
All anchors torn into shards.
Bare feet hit fresh white sand.
And a warm slow wave like a small child
Plays with the hem of her dress.

"Listen to the cry of a woman in labor at the hour of giving birth - look at the dying man's struggle at his last extremity, and then tell me whether something that begins and ends thus could be intended for enjoyment." ~Soren Kierkegaard
